The racing gods can be cruel from time to time!
“It was not our day in Sebring” said team director and engineer Andrew Wojteczko. “We were well prepared for this event following a successful test and continued to work on setup leading up to the race. The car was fast and the team was ready to race. Despite the failure, I’m really happy with everyone’s performance and am looking forward to Laguna. We know where we can improve on the Vantage and will use the available time to apply this.”
owner and driver, Anthony Mantella qualified the car very well on Thursday and had a great start to the race. “Anthony was right on pace and looking very strong” said Andrew.
The team’s Aston Martin Vantage GT4 suffered a gearbox problem early in the race when the gear selection lever broke on the transmission leaving Anthony in neutral on the side of the track.
Driver Mark Wilkins did not get in the car on race day but had this to say: “The Mantella Autosport guys did a great job at Sebring but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. We made some great gains with the balance of the car for qualifying and Anthony did his best times of the week when it mattered. I’m anxious to get to Laguna in May!”
“Obviously I am disappointed in our DNF and feel bad for the guys because I know how hard they are working” said Team owner/driver Mantella “But this team will not dwell on results, we are only focused on the process that we have in motion. Nobody said this was going to be easy. The results will come with this team. I am confident in that and when they do, it will be very sweet!!”
That process is already in motion for the team’s next race at the famed Laguna Seca race track in Monterey California on May 3rd.
